Hello Reader,

Our Labor Day was one for the books, with extended family in town for the three-day weekend and lots of lively discussions taking place during our time together.

Four of the grandkids who came to visit will be moving to the other side of the globe by the end of September, so we're enjoying them while we still can.

And since Grandparent's Day always falls on the Sunday after Labor Day, and these multi-generational relationships are fresh on my mind, that's the topic I've chosen for this week's link list. Enjoy!

Free resources for you this week:

What we're reading this week:

Sounder by William H. Armstrong.

I recently finished reading Sounder aloud to three of my grandkids, who aren't as accustomed as my children to watching me cry over sad books. But I can't imagine anyone being able to keep dry eyes while reading Armstrong's tale of a young boy whose father and dog are both ripped away from him on the same day, and of the persistence with which he searches so faithfully to locate them.

What we're watching this week:

My husband took me and my daughter to see Reagan at a local movie theater on opening night. It was excellent, with many interesting parallels to the current political climate. Well worth the watch!

On the podcast this week:

Loving Life at Home: Episode 60

SMART IDEAS FOR CONNECTING GRANDPARENTS & GRANDKIDS

Grandparent’s Day is coming up, so this week we’re discussing how to cultivate a closer relationship between grandkids and grandparents, including things parents can do to facilitate the connection.

Progress on last week's goals:

Admittedly, my to-do list was pretty light last week, which doubtlessly explains how I was able to check off every last item. I βœ… practiced my daughter's choir music with her, she helped me βœ… put together two bright red Adirondack chairs for our patio (link). We also βœ… had a new friend over for dinner, βœ… visited with eight of our twelve kids who were in town for the holiday weekend, and βœ… finalized plans for our trip to Colorado to see Doug's parents.

Personal goals for this week:

  • visit my Mom in Dallas
  • empty/organize craft basket in closet
  • sew a black & white checked tree skirt
  • send new Bible memory challenge to my grandkids
  • inventory Christmas gifts
