Hello Reader,

Proverbs 17:6 reads, "Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of a son is his father." I'm glad the writer is speaking figuratively, because with soon-to-be nineteen grandchildren, such a crown would be sitting pretty heavily on my head about now.

I may not have grandchildren on my head, but they are on my mind. Because of that and the fact that Grandparent's Day is this coming Sunday, today seemed a good time to collect several of my grandparenting-related resources into a link list for you. Enjoy!

Free resources for you this week:

What we're reading this week:

My husband is about halfway through reading Louis Zamperini: Redemption aloud to our family. Our history-loving Daniel picked this one, and we all agree it was a great choice.

Zamperini was a troubled kid making all sorts of bad choices (drinking, smoking, brawling, stealing, running away from home) before finding a sense of purpose when his older brother talked him into joining the track team in high school.

We've gotten choked up several times reading about the slow transformation that took place as Zamperini developed the courage, self-discipline, and faith that would serve him so well as an Olympic athlete, a member of the Army Air Corps, and a prisoner of war. His story is proof that no life is beyond redemption.

Progress on last week's goals:

We ✅ attended our homeschool support group's big kick off party and ✅ registered all our creative arts entries in the fair, but the rest of our spare time was spent finishing up those registered entries and getting them ready to drop off this week, so I haven't finished anything else on last week's list.

My goals for this week:

  • Visit my son's family in Dallas (and spend time with my mother while we're there)
  • Stay on top of homeschool lessons and grading
  • Celebrate 2 family birthdays
  • Get gifts ready for new families at our homeschool co-op (the current members always make goody bags to welcome newcomers)

Another poll for you:

Well, the teaspoon users outnumbered tablespoon users 2 to 1 last week. Such an overwhelming majority of little-spoon-lovers responded immediately that I initially felt quite alone in my preference for big spoons.

But by the end of the week, my fellow tablespoon users had closed the gap just a little. Which makes me wonder if there's a correlation between using a big spoon and procrastinating. (I'm guilty on both counts.)

This week's question: What are your favorite memories of your grandparents? (Mine: great home cooking, gathering bouquets, shooting off fireworks, working jigsaw puzzles, catching frogs and horny toads, and camping out) What memories do you hope to make with your own grandkids?
