Hello Reader,
Helen Keller gave some advice a lot of people like: "Life is short and unpredictable. Eat the dessert first!" Evidently, whoever is in charge of creating quirky holidays must have liked it, too, because they set aside the entirety of August as "Eat Dessert First Month."
I don't think my waistline would like for me to make a habit of living by that creed, but enjoying a bite or two of dessert at the beginning of a meal might be okay every once in a while. If you agree, then this week's "sweet treat" link list is for you. Bon Appétit!
School's back in session, and we've been kicking our mornings off right with "nice cream" smoothie bowls. Mmm-mmmm-mmm! They're so yummy!
I've been re-reading Austin Kleon's bestselling book Show Your Work. It argues that, when it comes to creative pursuits, people are as interested in the process as they are the finished product.
That was the inspiration behind a couple of Instagram reels I've posted recently (like one of me painting my husband's car windows and another of me creating a gallery wall). And judging by the 35,000 views that first one has received (so far), I'd say Kleon is right.
We missed a lot of World Watch News episodes while traveling this summer, but now that school's back in session, we're back to using it as a way to study and discuss current events with our kids.
I ✅ submitted my original design for Doubletree's Doodle Contest (but didn't make it the the finals), ✅ emptied (and put away!) the contents of three more of my moving boxes, and ✅ started back to our homeschool co-op (which we celebrated with these free printable First Day of School Signs). Sadly, I'm still not completely finished with my, mainly because my computer was in the shop for most of the week (which accounts for this newsletter being a little late, as well).
If you could only eat one dessert for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
