Hello Reader,

Have you ever noticed how stressful change can be, even if the circumstances surrounding the change are happy ones? Getting married. Having a baby. Graduating a child from high school. Moving into a house you like better than the one you're currently living in?

Even exciting changes demand a lot of energy and adjustment.

But if you find yourself dealing with negative, unwelcome changes -- the loss of a job, a life-changing diagnosis, the death of a loved one -- the accompanying stress is further compounded.

Chances are that you, like I, have had to deal with both kinds of change in the past, and will face both kinds again in the future. So this week's link list offers suggestions for handling such opportunities in a healthy way.

Free resources for you this week:

What I'm reading this week:

I'm just a chapter away from finishing Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. What a fascinating read! The author takes the principles he has learned as the FBI's lead international kidnapping negotiator and applies them to ordinary, everyday exchanges such as negotiating a raise at work or haggling for a better price on a new car. He offers proven and effective tips for almost any kind of bargaining you might need or want to do while giving readers an incredibly interesting inside look at what goes on during international hostage negotiations.

What we're eating this week:

This week, our family is celebrating three birthdays and the anniversary of the day I met my husband by taking a cruise to the Caribbean. So, as you might imagine, we are eating all sorts of scrumptious food for which I have no recipe.

But I did bake a big batch of breakfast muffins before I left for the college kids at home whose schedules wouldn't allow them to join us aboard. I'm not going to pretend these muffins hold a candle to the breakfasts we've been enjoying on the ship, but they are tasty in their own right and are super easy to make.

Progress on last week's goals:

I marked almost everything off last week's to-do list: ✅ ordering graduation invites, ✅ shelving another box of books, ✅ attending to neglected correspondence (via both email and snail mail), and ✅ speaking at a local women's conference.

Goals for this week:

  • celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday (4/20)
  • celebrate my 58th birthday (4/21)
  • celebrate my husband's 56th birthday (4/22)
  • celebrate the day we met (4/23)
  • address and send my son's graduation announcements
  • address and send invitations for family reunion
  • buy and label new travel toothbrushes (since two of us just realized we both thought the purple one was ours and have been sharing the same toothbrush all trip 🤪)

Another poll for you:

Some folks, like myself, are a little change-averse. Some, like my husband, almost embrace change for change's sake. What kind of person are you? Hit reply and let me know!
